Frequently Asked Questions
Nelson Dental Practice is a family practice. We treat patients of all ages.
The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends healthy adults and children visit the dentist twice a year. Some people need to visit more frequently and others less often. Our professional staff will advise you on how often you should visit based on your individual needs.
If you have a fear of visiting the dentist, you are not alone. Many people have anxiety when it comes to visiting the dentist. We understand that some patients have a harder time than others. Please feel free to let us know. At our practice we are compassionate, experienced dental professionals and offer a variety of options to help our patients get through their appointment. The worst thing to do is not come. Neglecting your dental health can lead to big problems, which can result in more involved procedures.
The ADA (American Dental Association) no longer recommends that all patients with joint replacements take antibiotics prior to a dental visit or procedure. Along with the benefits, there are risks to your health when using antibiotics. C.difficile is a serious and potential life threatening infection that can occur as a result of antibiotic use. If you have had a joint replacement, you should discuss this with your dentist and medical doctor.
We have plenty of free parking in front of our office.
We accept and file claims for most PPO dental insurances. Our office is a Delta Dental Premier Provider and we are in network with most Cigna PPO dental plans . If you have questions, please call our office.
If you are a patient of record having a dental emergency, call our office at 703-361-2141. If you are having a medical emergency call 911 or visit the emergency room.
We highly recommend that our patients use an electric toothbrush. While it is possible to clean your teeth well with a manual toothbrush, it requires more skill. An electric toothbrush makes the job much easier. Using a soft bristled brush with either the electric or manual toothbrush is recommended. Your dental hygienists will be happy to advise and educate you on the best dental hygiene routine, customized to meet your personal needs.
It is best to use a toothpaste containing fluoride to help prevent dental decay.
Our office accepts all major credit cards, personal checks, cash, care credit and flexible saving account cards.
